The Castle of Castro Laboreiro is located on top of a hill of difficult access, at 1033 meters of altitude. This castle is located in the parish of Castro Laboreiro, municipality of Melgaço and is part of the Peneda-Gerês National Park.
With records of human occupation since prehistoric times, this region highlights the various Roman roads and its characteristic bridges. Conquered by D. Afonso Henriques in 1141, it became part of the border line of Portugal’s domains, becoming one of the most important points of defense in the region.
